Message from New Zealand Buddhist Council Chair
Amala Wrightson
A warm welcome to Venerable Sangha, to lay members of the Christchurch Buddhist community, and to friends from other faith communities, who have come together today to participate in this peace walk marking the 10th anniversary of the New Zealand Buddhist Council.
Our walking together is a way of expressing our gratitude for the Buddhadharma, and our gratitude for being able to practice our faith freely in New Zealand. What good karma to live in a peaceful country where all faiths coexist in an atmosphere of mutual respect. Way we continue to nurture the seeds of peace in Aotearoa.
Our walking today also expresses the fact of our interconnectedness — we really do walk together on this path. It was with this understanding that the Council was formed ten years ago, and continues today, providing a means for us to help each other with common problems, strengthen Buddhism in New Zealand, and contribute to New Zealand Society through our efforts to practice, as best we can, peace, kindness and wisdom in all our interactions
May all beings attain Buddhahood.
